It’s time for Africa !
After an amazing week in Istanbul I went back to Dakar on Tuesday morning to pack the latest collection of db gowns and handbags and headed to Nigeria in the evening. This was the most exhausting trip so far with endless layovers and delays. We finally made it to Lagos on Wednesday afternoon and after a few hours headed to Bayelsa, which is the President’s home state.
We were selected to represent Senegal at the Africa Fashion Reception organized jointly between the Nigerian Government and the World Fashion Organization. The event was supposed to take place in Abuja but later on the venue changed to Bayelsa as the President himself decided to host the event over the Ministry of Culture. I have been so overwhelmed yet proud meeting so many talented designers and gorgeous models from all over the world. Designers came from 40 African countries whereas models came from all over the world including Brazil, London, Italy, Albania, Angola etc…
I just got back to the hotel after a day of fashion shows. We presented db today and it was a great success. We also shot the African Voyage Chapter V campaign today trying to incorporate the international spirit of the event. Can’t wait to share the images later this weekend.
I am going to finally get some food and some rest before another busy yet exciting day tomorrow.
Last day in Istanbul !
I decided to go to the Asian side first thing in the morning. I grabbed the boat from Karakoy and headed to Kadikoy and went down to their version of 5th Avenue on Bagdat Street. It was beautiful, fancy and modern but I prefer the European side. So much more history, culture and heritage.
I headed back to Europe after 2 hours and decided to go gift shopping at the Grand Bazaar. Never visited such a big market and definitely managed to find more than I was looking for.
Ended the day with a lovely dinner with Kerem at Galata Kitchen, this quaint restaurant that specializes in homemade turkish food. It was quite yummy and definitely a filling Ramadan dinner :)
We are now back in Dakar for a couple of hours to recharge and pack new outfits before heading to our next destination for Chapter 5.
