NYFW Day 2
I have a body full of scars and a heart full of love!
Chalanie was traveling all around Africa this summer and has this amazing quote on instagram: “I got a passport full of stamps and a heart full of memories” and somehow it got me thinking about myself and my stamps or scars. I was photoshopping them out in front of her one day and she asked me why I was hiding them. I had gotten comfortable with the one on my face but still not with the ones of my legs so I decided to learn by sharing them with the world during Fashion Week this season. So many people would stop me and be like “What happened to you” and I would smile and respond ‘Magic’. Because that’s what happened, or at least that’s how I see it! These scars are the beautiful tattoos of life and remind me everyday of how blessed I am!
Wearing Mom’s vintage dress shirt from the 70s and a MINT by Diarra Bousso moussor. I also had the new db duffle bag from the African Voyage luggage collection but will share more details soon.
This was Friday September 5th, the day before my show so I only was able to catch the Mark & Estel show in Lincoln Center and spent the rest of the day planning with the team for the big day :)
Was caught by BET for a quick interview with other fashion enthusiasts. Video in the next post.
My first show this season was Tadashi Shoji
I literally arrived in New York very early on Thursday September 4th after a 14-hour flight from Dubai where I spent the day before for a few business meetings. My first show was Tadashi Shoji, which I loved! Review coming soon. I wore Daddy’s dress shirt, a MINT by Diarra Bousso underskirt and moussor and the Iconic Khoudia handbag named after mommy, that was captured so well in this illustration. Parents are so cute, they want live updates of all my outfits and somehow leave vicariously through me so I wanted to make them smile a bit .
Right after Tadashi Shoji I met up with Stephon Samuel (Model) and Shanize Gibson (Photographer for the International Fashion Stylist Association) as they were to accompagny me to the Perry Ellis Show and the Old Navy After Party with Joe Zee. I was way too jetlagged and had Shanize cover Perry Ellis while I met with Enigmaworld Photography owner, James Harper to strategize on my upcoming show the following saturday. We grabbed a cab to the Old Navy after party in Midtown West and enjoyed cocktails with Fashion Stylist Joe Zee, Jay Manuel (ANTM), Katie Holmes, Hilary Rhoda and a few others.
Decided to leave early and check out the venue for my show on Saturday and fell in love with the ‘White Gallery’ at the Alchemical Theater Laboratory.
No parties for me on Day 1. Returned to the apartment in Financial District by 8 p.m. to get some well deserved sleep after a long day in Dubai followed by Day 1 or MBFW. Show reviews to come - Diarra
